ABOUT SUMMER CAMP

In our opinion, it is impossible to tell you everything about summer camp in America. It is truly something you need to experience in order to "get it" and until you experience it anyone who you speak to who has been before is going to sound crazy when they reminisce and tell you about it.

We will hopefully give you some information about summer camp, a few movies or TV shows to get you excited and set you up so you can ask more specific questions when you speak with us or your future camp.

Starting with the history lesson, children in the US have been attending summer camps since the 1870s with an expected 14 million children expected to attend camp this summer! What you're taking part in is an American tradition and one that has evolved and changed a lot over the years.

Children who are fortunate enough to attend camp cover a huge variety socio-economic groups so as you can imagine there are a huge variety of camps to cater that.

There are privately owned camps, non-profit camps, LGTBQ+ camps, religious-based camps, educational camps, sports camps, all-round camps, music camps, the list goes on and on.

Many of you reading this may already have an image of what camp is in your head, which is great! We strongly advice that until you find your summer home you should remain open minded about which camp you end up working at. They're all so different but that doesn't mean you're going to have any less of a good time.

That's it for the lesson, next up is homework. The next time your scrolling through one of your subscription services trying to find something to watch try watching something set/based at summer camp!
